For many buyers, living off the grid brings to mind isolated communes or humble shacks that only the most adventurous buyers would enter.
A new luxury residence in Coffs Harbour is tipped to reinvent the idea of off-grid living, giving buyers the opportunity to own a $3m mansion with surrounding ocean views.
The five bedroom and four bathroom property at 93 Sealy Lookout Drive in Korora is situated 6km north of the Coffs Harbour city centre.
The property includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Featuring 180 degree views of the ocean, the 720 sqm home sits on a 1 hectare site powered by a stand alone self-sufficient solar system.
Listed via Property Now and Revolutionary real estate’s David Kaity, the home is spread over two levels and includes a self-contained studio flat for extra potential income.
Mr Kaity said the property is considered a trophy home and is unique when compared to other off-grid properties.

The home was built by a couple who wanted to make their vision of a self-sustained property on the mountain come true.
“Most people think of a cheap and cheerful shack in the woods or a home that used to be part of a hippie commune,” Mr Kaity said.
“This residence proves that being self-sustained doesn’t necessarily mean buyers have to cut back on the usual luxurious they might expect from their usual sea-change or treechange.”
“There’s also plenty of nearby wildlife as the home is situated nearby the Bruxner Park Reserve – its perfect for anyone looking to get in touch with nature.”

The self-sustained home runs off a solar system.
The property was constructed by Line Cohen-Solal and her husband, beginning in 2014.
Ms Cohen-Solal told The Daily Telegraph that she wanted to construct the home because she and her husband had visited the spot on the mountain looking over Coffs Harbour when they were dating.
Sadly, her late husband passed away in 2016 prior to the construction finishing in October 2021.
“Even from the beginning of the construction, my husband and I had a vision of what the completed house would look like,” Ms Cohen-Solal said.

“After my husband passed away, I wanted to continue the construction to fulfil our dream. Dealing with tradies and the Council was difficult, but I’m glad I was able to see this through.”
“I had no plans to live in the property once it was completed, I had a mission to make it self-sufficient because living with nature and properly recycling waste is so important to me.”

Despite the unfortunate circumstances of the sale, Mr Kaity said the property would be a great addition for any buyer looking to move to Coffs Harbour.
“It’s a fairly significant hub. People are coming from Sydney for a lifestyle change, and this home offers both a sea-change and treechange.”
“With skyrocketing energy prices dominating the headlines, I think this self-sustained off-grid home could be perfect for buyers looking for the next escape.”
